The 12 Best Things To Do On The Great Ocean Road This Summer

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s most iconic road trips, and we think it’s one that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetimes – or ideally several times!

It’s no secret that our region is simply breathtaking in the summer months, and it’s a great time to visit. Don’t forget to book your stay as early as possible though, as it can get very busy over this period.

Here’s a list of 12 things we think you absolutely must do if you’re visiting the Great Ocean Road this summer. Everything on our list is easily accessible from Alkina Lodge.

  1. Swim at Port Campbell Bay

If you love the beach then summer is definitely the best time for you to visit. Surfing, swimming, sand – it’s all here! Lifesavers are on patrol at Port Campbell Bay during the summer months, making it a great, safe, family swimming beach.

  1. See the Twelve Apostles at Sunset

It can get busy on the Great Ocean Road during the summer months, and if you want to avoid the crowds at the Twelve Apostles, sunset is a great time to go as there are usually fewer people around. It’s also a magical time of day with great photo opportunities.

4. Eat Fresh Seafood

The Great Ocean Road is known for its great seafood, and you’ll find it in many local restaurants. It is usually plucked from the ocean the same day as it’s served, making it about as fresh as you can get it.

5. Take an early morning walk along Johanna Beach

There’s nothing quite like the solitude and fresh ocean breeze of the early morning. You’ll definitely be inspired by the rugged, windswept coastline near Alkina Lodge. Take a stroll along the beach and gaze out across the beautiful ocean – it’s a great way to start the day!
