The majestic Southern Ocean. The awe-inspiring Twelve Apostles. Endless deserted beaches. Abundant native wildlife. And some of the most enchanting natural landscapes in the country, on the Great Ocean Road. This is the setting for the Alkina Lodge experience – three unique, purpose-built, private contemporary residencies designed for discerning travellers who want to reconnect, and refresh.
Designed by internationally-renowned Australian architects Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin to ‘touch the earth lightly’, each residence is carefully positioned to give you exclusive privacy, and a level of luxurious detail far beyond the ordinary. With clean lines, stone floors, minimalist aesthetic and natural light, they offer a personal sanctuary where you can relax, discover and enjoy the abundant local wildlife.
Alkina Lodge
accommodation
Mira, Nuru & Yani
The three options – Alkina Lodge Mira (sea), Alkina Lodge Nuru (earth) and Alkina Lodge Yani (journey)- are almost identical in terms of their layout and features, but differ somewhat in their interior design, and décor.
The residences are designed to sustainably ‘breathe’. Passive solar heating and gas-fired hydronics means that variations in winter sunshine can mean temperatures do vary (so do bring extra clothing just in case!). In summer, the Southern Ocean breeze naturally ventilates and cools.
Open spaces. Outstanding architecture. And elegant interiors. Each private residence at Alkina Lodge is an architectural wonder in itself. The signature ‘sky windows’ for example, bathe the living spaces with light, while allowing breath-taking stargazing under cover.
Tastefully designed with the finest of furnishings, a fully equipped Gaggenau kitchen to inspire culinary creativity, Bose audio, magnificent art and photography, fine European furniture and a bespoke wood fireplace – you’ll make memories here which will last a lifetime.

“This is the most amazing place. The lodges are huge with every convenience imaginable, from washing machine, hairdryers, log fire with wood, and kangaroos on your doorstep.
A group of about 14 kangaroos hung around just outside our door for several hours.
The drive along the Great Ocean Road was spectacular but make sure you pick up all food supplies before arriving as there are no eating out dinner options in the area. To be honest the lodge is so wonderful that eating in is wonderful. You can order pre organised hampers a minimum of seven days before your stay but we just did a shop in lorne at a very good supermarket. Cant recommend this place more highly” – Fleetoffoot, Feb 2019

“Everything about our stay was faultless. The meals were 5 star, the accommodation
perfect and the hosts just so welcoming and knowledgeable about the stunning
surrounding area. They could not have done more for us.” – Kate, March 2018

“This place is amazing. Everything is perfect. An out of the ordinary experience, with wild kangaroos just out of the window and a warm fire in the fireplace. Terrific walk-in showers. A bit cold in the rooms, but is well worth the price. Bring your food or ask the owners and enjoy a bbq” – Ziopao, Aug 2018

“The perfect place to reside after exploring the Great Ocean Walk”
“First time is Australia. First night. We arrived at sunset. 3 kangaroos waiting in front of the lodge. In the back they were 20! We slept with a view of the stars. I woke up with a kangaroo outside the window. A real home in a magical place.” – TL Tonnby, April 2019
