12 Apostles
One of the most iconic highlights of the Great Ocean Road is the 12 Apostles – huge limestone structures along the rugged Southern Ocean coastline. Stop and visit the Twelve Apostles Visitor Centre, before taking a stroll along the walking trails to the various viewing platforms.
Loch Ard Gorge
Located 8km from Port Campbell is Loch Ard Gorge, one of the best loved stop off points along the Great Ocean Road, steeped in history. Featuring a picturesque bay of clear, blue water, vibrant vegetation, yellow washed cliff faces, and a colourful and interesting shipwreck history, it’s easy to see why.
London Bridge
London Bridge was originally a natural archway and tunnel, however since collapsing in 1990’s it is now a bridge without a middle. Plan your visit for the end of the day and you may see the small population of little penguins returning home for the night.
The Arch
This small rock formation close to the 12 Apostles and 6km west of Port Campbell has been formed through erosion. The Arch generally looks best during rough seas, when the waves crash in and around the arch.
The Grotto
Located 9km west of Port Campbell, The Grotto is a geological formation that was created when sinkholes in the limestone cliffs met with a receding cliffline. The eerily still, clear water of The Grotto, contrasts spectacularly with the Southern Ocean.
Port Campbell Jetty
Port Campbell’s weathered jetty defines the bay and is the perfect place to watch the world go by as you enjoy the local seafood. You’ll find the jetty located in Lord Street, Port Campbell.

The Robert Ulmann Studio, located in Allansford, Victoria, features work by the noted wildlife artist and his daughter Justine, a botanical artist. The studio is open most days or by appointment, and includes a fine selection of original watercolours, ink, linocuts, acrylics and oils, as well as prints, cards and whale charts.
Qdos Arts
Qdos Arts is the epicentre of the vibrant arts scene in Lorne, Victoria, and boats a complete respite for creative souls with master classes and even Japanese-inspired treehouses to stay.
Otway Estate
Situated in the Otway Ranges and approximately one hour’s drive from Alkina Lodge, Otway Estate is home to Prickly Moses Handcrafted Beer and Forbidden Fruit Ciders, as well as the estate’s own range of wines. Great Ocean Walk
The Great Ocean Walk is a one-way long-distance walk shadowing Australia’s Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Bells Beach
Regarded as one of the best surf beaches in the world, Bells Beach is amazing, both in and out of the water. Located just south of Torquay, Bells Beach is well worth the day trip from Alkina Lodge.
Glow Worms in the Otways
Walk among the ancient trees and giant ferns at Melba Gully in the Otways and experience the unique spectacle provided by the large colony of glow worms. During the day, this location makes for the perfect picnic spot, and then by night, watch the banks beside the walking tracks glitter from the twinkling of the tiny glow worms.
Wreck Beach
Descending over 350 steps, it is a difficult but rewarding walk to Wreck Beach. The walk takes you to the anchors of Marie Gabrielle and the Fiji, reminders of the treacherous nature of the Southern Ocean. Be sure to make this walk at low tide for the best experience.
