Constructed using handmade bricks, the lodges are set amongst native bushland, creating a perfect blend of luxury and eco-friendly experiences unique to the Great Ocean Road region. Designed to ‘touch this earth lightly’, Alkina’s lodges are perhaps the only houses in the world designed by renowned architects Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin available for short stay rental.
Glenn Murcutt AO is Australia’s most internationally renowned and celebrated architect. He has been the recipient of a myriad of prestigious awards, including the AIA Gold Medal (2009), the Kenneth F. Brown Asia Pacific Culture and Architecture Award (2003), the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2002), and the Thomas Jefferson Medal for Architecture (2001). The Pritzker is acknowledged as the architecture world’s Nobel Prize and was won by Glenn Murcutt one year prior to Jorn Utzon, famous for the Sydney Opera House, won it.
Wendy Lewin was born and educated in Sydney, Australia, and established a private firm in 1993, where she worked as a private practitioner and in association with her partner, Glenn Murcutt. Wendy has taught at the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales and Hong Kong University.
